Happy New Year, friends! I don’t know about you, but I was ready to say good-bye to 2019 back in February! It was not my best year for some good reasons. If you follow my IG and this site, you know that no one has looked forward to 2020 as much as me!
No New Year’s Resolutions for me!
If you know me, you already know I am not into making New Year’s resolutions, for the same reasons I don’t create diets for my clients or myself. They DO NOT WORK! How about setting intentions or perhaps focusing on resolve. How many times have you made a New Year’s Resolution and STUCK to it? Yea, I thought so. When you make a resolution, you aren’t doing anything different. Resolutions sound more like hopes or wishes.
What are intentions?
I learned many years ago to set intentions for myself instead of resolutions. I’m sure you’ve heard the quote, “intentions are the starting point of every dream—the seed of creation.” Deepak Chopra.
To me, this means intentions are statements of what I intend to have, do, learn, and feel in the New Year! You must be clear in your plan with focus. Once you are clear, the universe knows, and everything starts to align.
How to set intentions for yourself
- Have a pen + journal ready to go
Find some quiet time where you can be alone with zero distractions. Think about all of the things in 2019 that you never want to experience again. Write the things you are DONE with. After that, you should write a list of all the experiences that you loved. The times you felt fantastic and happy. It could be something like a place you went with your significant other or something you did for your little one that left him or her so happy.
2. Set realistic intentions.
When you write your intentions for 2020, they shouldn’t be so far fetched from your reality. Your new intentions shouldn’t be a huge struggle, but more like a little challenge. This list or your new 2020 intention should be something that makes you feel butterflies, or excites you! Just writing these down should make you so full of energy and excitement!
3. Share your intentions
Some say to keep quiet about goals and intentions. To keep them to yourself and just get to work silently. Others think by telling friends and family, it will keep you accountable and motivated. I think both are good. I believe you should share your intentions with the people you love and the people who are closest to you. I don’t think you should share your intentions with the world on social media. I used to share my every thought on my social media. I’ve since learned that not everyone will be happy for you. For obvious reasons, such as envy, or jealousy, or negative minds, it’s best to not give so much away on social media.
4. Get to work
Now that you’ve decided on your intention, you’ve got to move! The universe now knows. Like Elsa from Frozen says, “Let it go.” You know what you have to do. Don’t listen to or be influenced by anyone who has negative things to say. Stay away from anyone that may alter your thinking. It’s time to trust the process, the journey, and the universe. Keep your heart and mind open to all of your intentions.
HAPPY + HEALTHY 2020 TO YOU.
My one intention– The one I will share with everyone, is to continue to inspire, motivate, and empower you to be your best YOU!
