On Thursday here in NY, it was steamy as hell, but honestly, watching it rain outside confirmed that today was a perfect day to bust out my slow cooker and make some chicken soup.
Sasha asked me a few weeks ago to make her chicken soup, and I could not even think about making it, because it was so damn hot out. It’s almost 2:00 in the afternoon and my dinner is prepped, cooking and will be done by 5:00, thanks to my slow-cooker! That takes one task off my list of twenty more things to do before I go to bed tonight!
If you’re a busy mom like me, having a slow cooker is LIFE! When it comes to giving your family a healthy well-balanced meal, a slow cooker is worth every cent! I get so much usage out of mine all winter long between making chili, steel-cut oats, lentil, and chicken soup.
Chicken Soup For Sasha!
One thing to note, for Sasha, I don’t season it up. For her, I keep it simple with just pink himalayan sea salt, and some cilantro. You can season it up as you wish. I need to keep it super simple for my little boss lady. I will do anything to get her to eat!

Ingredients
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bunch organic carrots- about (8), diced
- 1/2 red onion, diced
- 4 organic parsnips, diced
- 10 thin organic celery stalks, diced
- 1 3-pound whole organic chicken.
- 1 pouch Bonafide Broth (You can find this in the freezer section of Whole Foods)
- Pink Himalayan sea salt + black pepper (season to your liking)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Place the Bonafide Broth in the slow cooker.
- Rinse the chicken and dry it off. Place in the slow cooker.
- next, add in your celery carrots and parsnips
- Set on high/low for 4 hours.
Against my dislikes for noodles or pasta, the little boss lady prefers egg noodles in hers, so I made them separately. Mario had quinoa in his, which I used my little rice cooker (another life saver), and this mama crunched and dipped these little salty addicting crackers in my soup! CrunchMaster Protein crackers are insanely delish! thirteen crackers in a serving, but you better take your thirteen crackers and hide the rest of the bag. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
RECIPE NOTES
- Whatever is leftover, you can put into Mason Jars, and freeze. Take out the in the morning, it will be defrosted and ready to heat up for dinner!
There is nothing better than having my husband and daughter walk through the door inhaling the delicious smell of dinner! Oh wait, there is something better, I got 20 other things done including a shower while this cooked! Who’s better than me!? You’ve got to get this slow cooker! It’s the mother of all slow cookers!
